ISLAMABAD – Police have registered a case against the attack on singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed, who was assaulted by a mob at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Saturday night.
The case was registered at Airport police station on the complaint of Jamshed against his attackers under Section 506 and 341 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Jamshed was attacked by a handful of people, who claimed he had committed blasphemy, at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Saturday night.
A visibly shaken Jamshed maintained silence for the most part and offered the crowd to “talk” as the men confronted him. He then retreated into the airport’s arrival lounge.
The incident took place a year after a controversy that pushed Jamshed into hiding, as he became the target of the wrath of right-wing groups over blasphemy allegations.
He later offered a public apology in which he said he was “accepting his mistake” and asked for forgiveness.
