ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research on Wednesday recommended for starting one-window operation by the Barani Agriculture Research Institution to facilitate the Izhar olive farm and other olive producing farmers in the country.
The committee met with Member of National Assembly (MNA) Malik Bashir Awan at Izhar Olive Farm, Talagang, said a statement. The committee also recommended for registration of seed certification and providing other facilities throughout the country for olive farmers.
The committee also recommended to purchase the olive plants from local producers instead of importing the olive plants from other countries to save the extra burden on national exchequer. The Lahar Olive Farm manager briefed the committee about the cultivated area of olive plants which included about 16 varieties of olive plants.
It was informed that about 50,000 olive plants are being cultivated at Izhar olive with an area of 20 acres. Where as it has a capacity to provide 500,000 olive plants per annum. The meeting was attended by (MNAs) Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir, Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad, Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry, Rao Muhammad Salman Khan, Abdul Sattat Bachani, Faqir Sher Muhammad Bilalani and Muhammad Salman Khan Baloch. Senior officials of Ministry of National Food Security Research attended the meeting.
